Chapter 1

- Projects - The most important Future projects

The Most Important Future Construction Projects :

Kuwait International Airport – The new Passengers' Building:

The contract is signed at May 2016.

Location: Al-Farwaniya province 16 km south of Kuwait City.

Site Area : The total area is divided into 1.5 km² of the new passengers' building of the ground. 3.6 km² approximately of the airspace.

Construction area: The building covers 180,000 m² of the area of the location.

The total area of the building is approximately: 700,000 m².

Kuwait International Airport project (the passengers' building 2) is located south of the current building between the two runways. The project

has to increase the capacity of Kuwait International Airport on a high.

The design is planned to be flexible in order to expand in the future. The first phase has the capacity for (25) million of travelers with an (A)

service level. In addition to gates that are attached to the building and serves a number of (51) planes at the same time. It is possible to

construct a building that has the ability to be expanded in the future to have the capacity of (50) million traveler annually. The planes' stop

yards are planned to be appropriate with the expansion.

One of the strategic objectives of the project is to provide the latest environment standards that the technology has reached in order to

achieve a high level of comfort. The project is aiming to reach the leadership standards in the field of energy and the environmental golden

design LEED. It will be the first passengers' building in the world that achieves this level of environmental dependence. The concrete structure

of the building provides an appropriate thermal mass. The roof includes large areas of photovoltaic panels cells in order to have the maximum

benefits from the solar energy.

The new passengers' building design consists of a tripartite sections scheme which includes three corresponding suites that includes

departure gates. Each building frontage extends to a length of 1,2 km and flats of a central area of a height of 25 m. The passengers' building

is balanced between the wide central space and a design that has a great approval on a human level bases.

The building is designed to be under a single roof dome (throughout openings that has the feature of filtering daylight ) in which allows the

passage of direct sunlight. The building provides the passengers with all of the services and stops them from moving between floors. It also

shall ease up the movement of the passengers inside the building in order to guide the travelers.

The roof extends outside of the building to provide an adequate protection of the entrances and frontages. The roof is supported with concrete

pillars that have organic forms inspired from the smooth movement of traditional sail boats in Kuwait.

Information and Statistical Data of the Project :

The total area has been divided into (150) hectares approximately of the landing space and (360) hectares of the planes' runway. The landing

area is appropriate to allow car parking and a public transportation building. Also, other landing facilities such as : offices and headquarters of

general administration of civil aviation.

The height of the building is (39) m approximately. It consists of four floors above the ground and one basement.

A ceiling canopy that extends to 60 meters to protect the building and aircrafts from sun and weather.

Reducing the walking distance to less than 600 meters from the center point until the gates at the end of the airport building.

An area dedicated to two hotels for the transit passengers.

Statistical data on traveling procedures and baggage handling:

180 travelling procedures’ pod for 25 million passengers annually.

Machines to deal with bags and luggage of 25 million passengers annually that are capable of operating at a rate of 2,930 bags per hour at

the peak times.

Baggage package of a length of about 6 kilometers, High-speed bags sorting machines of about 1.5 km ,Baggage checking systems including

dynamic storage and sorting.

Reaching the Airport and car parking:

The new airport building will have an entrance with a distinctive Architectural branching from a new road that links King Faisal Highway

(51) and seventh ring road, in addition to that there is a plan to create a new Metro that connects the new terminal building with the heart

of Kuwait City.
