Chapter 1

Shaikh/ Jaber Al- Ahmad Al-Sabah Causeway project – Al Doha link

Commencement date: December 2014.

The project aims to link the country's south to its north to accommodate the increasing traffic density that is expected during the

next thirty years, and ensure the full flow of traffic towards Kuwait City, Shuwaikh Port, the port of Doha, Sheikh Jaber Al-

Ahmad Al-Sabah City, and Doha area.

The project consists of the construction of a road and a bridge linking the port of Shuwaikh area and semi Doha island through

John Sulaibikhat, in addition to connecting the existing roads in Doha and the intersection of Shuwaikh Port. The total length of

the Doha link is 12.4 km (Road highway at Doha area of 4.4 km long - cross-sea bridge through John Sulaibikhat of 7.7

kilometers long). The link has three lanes, with an emergency lane in each direction.

The cross-sea bridge contains navigational slots that has a width of 40 to 60 meters and a maximum height of up to 12 meters.

The bridge consists of three parts; the western bridge, the main bridge and the eastern bridge.

The project also includes three intersections:

First: The Amusement Park intersection: It’s a free intersection that connects Kuwait City, Jahraa, Shuwaikh Port, and Sheikh

/Jaber Al-Ahmed Al-Subah City, and so it ensures full flow of traffic in each direction.

Second: The Doha intersection: It is the second intersection when descending from the bridge in the Doha island to connect

with the highway road in Doha area.

Third: Shuwaikh Port intersection: It is the most important intersection in the project, as it fully connects with the main bridge

project, which makes it the link between the Subiya bridge’s link and the Doha bridge’s link.

The project also includes government buildings, which are:

Maintenance center and bridge management.

Control center and traffic control, which will be linked to the central system in Kuwait.

Truck weighing station in Doha area.
