Chapter 4

– Sewage Systems and Water Treatment –

A statement about the sewage water treatment plants ( STP ) in the state of Kuwait

Al-Wafra STP:

The station is located 95 km in southern Kuwait City. The station was established in 2002 with a designed capacity of 5,000

m3/ day. It receives the sewage from Al-Wafra City and Al-Wafra farms and it processed and purified the sewage water until

the water reaches the required quality standards, and then pumped the water to be used for the purposes of afforestation and

agriculture. And it receives wastewater amount of 500m3. Flow to the station by the attractiveness with a diameter of 600 mm

Line to the lifting station consisting of four pumps which work on pump the incoming water to the mechanical refiners and sand

removal system to be treated.

The sewage treatment is being treated in this station with treatment basins System (SBR) to produced water treatment trilogy

by 98.6% total of sewage flowing amount of the plant through the following stages:

1. The primary treatment phase (physical therapy) – to remove sediment, sand and oil.

2. Bilateral treatment phase (biological) which works on the (SBR) system, where the wastewater is repeatedly processed

biologically in the same tub to include ventilation and sedimentation.

3. Tertiary treatment phase (sterilization and filtration) where sterilization is done by chlorine and ultraviolet radiation.

4. The station include tank to retain treated water for irrigation purposes and the water are drawing from the reservoir to the

irrigation water pumping station and fill tankers.

5. Also it includes a separate building containing diesel generators be used in case of emergency.
