Chapter 4
– Sewage Systems and Water Treatment –
A statement about the sewage water treatment plants ( STP ) in the state of Kuwait
Om Al-Haiman STP :
The station is located 61 km south of Kuwait City. It began operating in 2001 in order to treatment the wastewater flowing from
the suburb of Ali Sabah Al-Salem and the surrounding areas with a capacity of up to 27,000 m3 / day. It receives the
wastewater through the main pumping station A20 in Om Al-Haiman across two lines, with a diameter of 500mm each, and
stretches over a distance of 6,500m. Also, there are two additional lines with a diameter of 200mm and 250mm for each to
transfer the sewage water from the chalets and military units’ areas in the future. The station includes a tank to collect the
treated water which is divided into four equal sections with a capacity of 7000 m³. Also include a pumping station with five
working pumps to pull the treated water from the tank and pumped through the irrigation network and fields distribution system.
The station currently receives approximately 22,000 m3/ day.
The station produces tertiary-treated water sterilized with chlorine which equal the highest international standards increased by
99.8% of the total amount of sewage flowing out of the plant through the following stages:
1.The primary treatment phase (physical therapy) – to remove sediment, sand and oil.
2.Bilateral treatment phase (biological) where the water is being ventilated by air.
Tertiary treatment phase (sterilization and filtration) where sterilization is done by chlorine and ultraviolet radiation.
The advantages of treated water:
-Golf Club.
-Internal irrigation of the plant and the surrounding fields.
-Om Al-Haiman area.
-Army camps.
