- Projects - The most important ongoing projects
From the most important projects that the Ministry of Public Works is implementing in the field of construction projects, as It’s
concerned with the implementation of buildings for the other government agencies.
Sheik/Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah Hospital project:
Beneficiary: Ministry of Health.
Sheikh / Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah Hospital project will become the largest medical center in the State of Kuwait after its completion, with a
capacity of (1168) Beds in line with the Ministry of Health's strategy to deliver the latest services, medical care, high quality and the
comprehensive treatment through the Integrated Care program, which would enhance the Health and well-being of current and future
generations in Kuwait. The idea of the hospital design integrates the concept of planning and decorative art of Islamic architecture and the
meaning of the lighthouse, which symbolizes the rich maritime history of Kuwait, the project stands as an enduring monument symbolizing a
beacon of health and prosperity in the State of Kuwait.
The project is located in Hawalli governorate with a the total area of 469 370 Mitr², at the northwest entrance to the Ministries Area in South
Surra, at the southern intersection of King / Khalid Bin Abdul Aziz Street from Road (401), and will have access to the site using the three first
major ways off of King / Khaled bin Abdul Aziz Road on the north side, second and third from the street (404) on the western side and there
will be three internal links, two from the eastern side and the third from the south-east side. Also a service road will be generated to serve the
southern site.
Hospital site planning is centered on a clear and easy navigational system using the ring road within the site with four lanes to connect the six
external gates with the building’s entrances (five main entrances and a sub-service entrance), the project includes a parking building that is
curved between the inner ring road and all buildings. The hospital is located in the center of the site and consists of three levels below ground
and 6 spiral slopes distributed on the inner ring road to shorten the transition and to streamline the distribution of traffic distance, in addition to
surface parking next to the hospital building. So the total number of parking lots will be 4500 cars. The site includes green squares and
cosmetic crops to separate the project from the adjacent residential areas and to maintain the privacy of the location and provide protection
from the effects of wind and dust.
The project provides medical services to the people of South Surra area and the surrounding area's population of an estimated 600,000
people, and is available with all types of medical services and the latest equipment and medical devices as well as different types of
hardware, and the largest center for injuries in the Middle East. It contains 36 large and small operation rooms, 4 cardiac catheterization
laboratories, 4 MRI labs, and 4 CT Labs. The hospital is also promoting growth and continuing education through the lecture hall equipped
with modern technology (300-seat capacity), and meeting rooms that can be used in holding scientific and academic training and
conferences.
The project consists of four separate buildings:
Medical Center building - dental center building - staff accommodation building - the central unit building.
Medical Center building consists of:
Patients Tower : Located in the northern part to allow watching the outer views from patient rooms, and an appropriate direction with the sun.
This includes the administrative services, patient care, VIPs services and other support services. The building has been designed of nine
medical floors, eight floors above ground and one floor underground and five service floors overlap between the floors of medical services.
Building departments have to do everything to facilitate the work of the service and maintenance works without medical disability in the
hospital for a total number of 13 floors above the ground.
Diagnosis and treatment building (the number of floors ranges between three to 7 floors): Located South of the Patients Tower and are
linked by a cresent-shaped medical mall of 30 meters long and includes a diagnosis and treatment services, accidents services, Obstetrics
and Gynecology services, and general stores.
Clinics Building: Located in the southeast section of the Diagnosis and Treatment building, and contains all the patients’ services of
outpatient clinics with the exception of obstetrics and gynecology.
Injury Center: Located in the south of the Diagnosis and Treatment Department. They are both connected in the ground floor in order to
support these services.
Three places are also available for a helicopter landing at the site to provide a quick transfer of patients with critical situations. The first is
located above the Injuries building, while the second and third are located on the East and West side from the roof of the eighth floor of
the Tower of patients, and are dedicated to the senior VIPs.
