The headquarters of the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs building project
Beneficiary: Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs.
Commencement Date: November 2013.
The architectural design of the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs headquarters project is inspired by the Islamic character in
all aspects, due to its spirit of originality and beauty; it has been highlighted in different elements of the building such as; the
use of bows and oriels in interfaces. In addition, the designs of floors and ceilings and interior walls with paintings inspired by
Islamic motifs. Also, in the design of the interior spaces and emphasize the entrances and exits, especially the main entrance
to add to the people who enter the building the architectural touch which demonstrates the luxuriously and creativity of the
Islamic civilization. The building is considered an architecturally distinctive landmark in Kuwait. The project is located in Raqa'i
government area in the province of Al-Farwaniya at the intersection of Fourth Ring Road with Muhammad bin Qasim Street. It
is just 9 km from Kuwait Airport and 10 km from the capital. The site has been selected to be away from Kuwait City to reduce
the congestion and traffic density in the capital.
The project consists of main building which includes 16 floors and three basements. It is divided into two wings; eastern and
western, and a central void which is characterized by extension vision until the main southern entrance from the eastern side of
the building. There is a large door in the central void from the east until the main conference hall as there are doors in the four
corners to connect the visitors to the four wings containing the departments of the ministry and all the departments on all floors.
The project also includes a separate mosque, green spaces, internal roads and water body. The sustainable architecture has
been implemented by assembling a variety of tasks in one function, which makes high performance in operation and providing
the energy consumption of the project and reduce environmental impacts.
The Ministry building consists of 9 sectors: minister ward - the Supreme Committee for Moderation affairs - cultural affairs - Hajj
Media Coordination - Foreign Affairs - Planning and Development, the advisory and research legitimacy and mosques -
Administrative and Financial Affairs. In addition to the helping activities from libraries, chambers of computer and multi-purpose
lounge and variety of stores, parking and a shelter.
The entire project area is 26.560 m² include:
The ministry building area is 12,500 m².
The ministry’s mosque area is 2,330 m² with a capacity of 2,550 worshippers for the men and 400 for women.
Imam building (housing units for the imam and muezzin).
Green spaces and services 11.730 m² area.
A water body with an area of approximately 140 m.
Capacity for parking: 1105 cars.
