Chapter 1

- Projects - Achievements

The Ministry of Public Works has achieved so many major projects in the field of roads system’s development in the State and

the development of infrastructure services such as the sewerage networks, rainwater drainage networks, in addition to the

development of electricity, irrigation, fresh water, lighting, and phone lines.

During the past ten years since His Highness the Amir Sheikh / Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah Al-Sabah came to power,

it is the Ministry of Public Works’ responsibilities and competence as an executive that has contributed over the past years in

the creation and completion of mega development projects that have a significant impact on the development and upgrading

the public services in the state.

From the most important projects completed during the past ten years, in the field of infrastructure :

Roads and other services on the Fifth Ring road from its intersection with Fahaheel road until Al-Taawon Street

(AbdulKareem Al-Khatabi Street)

It aims to solve the problem of traffic congestion and increase the flow of traffic of the Fifth Ring road from its intersection with fahaheel road

until Al-Taawon roundabout through AbdulKareem Al-Khutabi Street and Al-Jawazat roundabout, and turn it into a highway with interesctions

that are free from traffic lights along 3.5 km and 5 car bridges in Al-Jawazat roundabout area and along AbdulKareem Al-Khutabi Street, in

addition to 3 pedestrian bridges.

The airport’s intersections with the Fifth Ring Road and Fahaheel highway with the Fourth Ring Road

The project aims to increase traffic flow through the removal of intersections that are governed by traffic lights and turn them to free

intersections, which will be done as follows:

Modifying the Fourth Ring Road’s intersection with Fahaheel road by adding a 300 meters long overpass and a circular slope.

Modifying the Fifth Ring Road’s intersection with the Airport road by adding a 260 meters long overpass and 4 circular slopes.

In addition to the infrastructure works, such as rainwater drainage sewer, lightning works, traffic signals, and landscaping.

The exists and entrances of King Fahad Bin Abdulaziz highway intersection’s bridge

The project aims to amend the entrances and exits of the two bridges of King Fahad Bin Abdulaziz highway’s intersection with Al-Ahmadi

road and Ahmadi port road on intersection no.81,79, in order to achieve a fluid traffic flow in this vitally important area, and replace a number

of the intersections that are controlled by traffic lights with circular links that allows free passage in all directions.

Roads and infrastructure for the residential areas

The Ministry of Public Works has completed numerous projects, which includes the development and improvement of the internal roads to

facilitate traffic flow in areas with large population density that chokes the roads especially during rush hours. Working plans and programs

have been made in accordance with the development’s needs and priorities in the country, notably the provision of basic services and

infrastructure such as roads, sanitation and nutrition of fresh water, irrigation and drainage of rain water, electricity, telephones, and lighting

networks for residential areas, and they are as follows:

• Suburb of Sabah Al-Nasser - Farwaniya Governorate.

• Hittin suburb of South Surra (Phase II) - Hawally Governorate.

• Zahra suburb of South Surra (Phase I) - Hawally Governorate.

• Zahra suburb of South Surra(Phase II) - Hawally Governorate.

• Jahra area - parts (91,92,93) - Jahra.

• Raqa'i area - parts (12,13,14,15) - Farwaniya Governorate.

• Eshbelia area - Farwaniya Governorate.

• Al-Oqaila area - Al-Ahmadi Governorate.

• Gleb Al-Shyokh area - parts (23.24) - Farwaniya Governorate.
