The Most Important Future Construction Projects :
Special Needs Schools Complex:
(pre - tender stages)
Beneficiary: Ministry of Education.
The special education schools are located in Hawally region which is one of the most crowded places in the State of Kuwait.
They are also ordinary school buildings for that were modified to accommodate students with special needs in all governorates
of Kuwait. So, it became necessary to create a new school complex in several different locations to serve a great population
and a wide range of cases of special needs within the same campus and creating a unique opportunity for a comprehensive
curriculum to serve these students.
The Ministry of public Works has adopted the best findings of modern science and technology for students with special needs,
through access to the latest international experiences in this field, to reach the best practices from which to create complexes
especially for people with disabilities and to provide all needs of these students to suit every disability.
The project aims at creating three complexes of government schools, under the supervision of the department of specific
education in the Ministry of Education to serve nearly 9000 students with special needs, in three different locations which are
Al Jahra – Al Fintas - Hawally, and serve the autism cases - Down syndrome - hearing disabilities - Physical disabilities- visual
disabilities - mental disabilities.
First, the school complex in Al Jahra region with an area of about 400 000 m ² for the serving the areas of Al Jahra, Al
Farwaniya will be built up. Then, the educational complex in Al Fentas will be built on an area of approximately 315,000 m ² for
serving Al-Ahmadi and Mubarak Al Kabeer educational zones, and after the completion of construction work and operating
them the special needs schools in the area of Hawally will be demolished and a new complex will be built up on an area of
approximately 400,000 meters ² to serve the areas of Hawally and the capital city.
The educational complexes include technology centers and an agricultural center and a center for pets and a theater that can
accommodate 400 people and a sports center recreation center and swimming facility with special specifications and special
housing for students and housing for internal and external missions in addition to the administrative center.
The project is designed with curved lines and bright colors that are comforting, and the complex is divided into several
buildings. Each building was allocated for a certain activity or to teach a certain class of people with special needs and has
been marked with color so that students can recognize the kind of disability in that building, as a kind of assistance in
recognizing their building and to make them better able to differentiate their places. The buildings have green corridors that are
covered with trees that commensurate with colors of the buildings and at the same time are suitable for the Kuwaiti
environment.
Due to the specificity of the needs of this group of students the classroom has been provided with everything you need such as
additional facilities like toilets and furniture that suits them. The doorways, hallways, lounges and gaming venues were
designed to provide the students with safety and ease of movement and comfort.
The project is characterized by maintaining space and taking advantage of it and using it optimally. The sports’ centers in
every complex will be used for various activities and sports by relying on technology to transform the site according to the type
of sport you want to practice once you push on a button to turn the site from one type of activity to another.
The designs have been chosen very carefully beginning from the exterior designs through the corridors and lobbies to
classrooms and additional services to places of entertainment and educational aids and ending with finishing materials
and furniture, so as to create an iconic building in order to serve the large numbers of students with special needs and
their huge and different needs.
