Chapter 1

Construction of roads and interchanges on the main roads access to

Sheikh/ Jaber Al Ahmed Al Sabah City

Commencement date: September 2013 .

The project is considered one of the important roads projects implemented by the Ministry of Public Works to support the

development process desired in the country through the establishment and implementation of infrastructure and network of

modern world-class roads to achieve streamline movement, speed of access, high-efficiency traffic flow, and provide all the

services for the new residential cities.

The project aims to create intersections to serve the new cities, and connecting their main entrances with the surrounding

highways network, which are the Doha Road and the west of Jahra Highway.

It serves the cities of Sheikh / Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah and Sheikh / Saad al-Abdullah and the West of Sulaibikhat and Jahra

and the Amusement Park.

The project contains 6 intersections, two of which are on the Doha highway (IC15 – IC14), and 4 intersections on Jahra

highway (IC6 – IC19 – IC18 – IC5). The project also contains two bridges, one on the Jahra road with a length of 155 meters

with 3 lanes per direction, and the other bridge is 150 meters long with 3 lanes per direction, and also includes one tunnel. The

project also includes infrastructure works such as rainwater, fresh water, and low salinity water networks, in addition to

telephone lines, streets lighting, streets landscaping, and Kuwait Oil Company’s services protection works.

Detailed data on the project:

The project contains 6 intersections, which are:

Intersection IC15: located in the Doha highway link’s intersection with Doha road, and connects Doha highway with the Doha

amusement park. The intersection serves the north west Sulaibikhat area and Sheikh/ Jabel Al Ahmed Al Subah City. The

current intersection will be expanded by constructing two pre-pressed concrete bridges and retained dirt walls.

Intersection IC19: serves the city of Sheikh / Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah at the entrances and exits on the path of Jahra highway

(80), and that is through the establishment of orthogonal road with the Jahra Road to reach the city of Sheikh / Jaber Al-Ahmad

Al-Sabah.

Intersection IC14: connects Abu Dhabi road (the extension of Jamal Abdul Nasser road) and Sheikh/ Jaber Al-Ahmed Al-

Subah through a tunnel (concrete poured into the site and retained dirt walls in the form of U-shape) under the Doha highway,

and is considered the only tunnel in the project.

Intersection IC6: serves the ones heading from Sheikh/ Jabel Al-Ahmed Al-Subah City to the Sixth Ring road and connects the

city’s southern entrance with Jahra road through U-Turn lanes and Right-Turn lanes.

Intersection IC18: serves the ones heading from Sheikh/ Jaber Al-Ahmed City towards Sheikh/ Saad Al-Abdulla City, and

designed by a diamond type model. Two bridges will be constructed for the main road’s northern and southern sides to connect

the two cities. These bridges are made of pre-pressed concrete bridges on pole bases cast on site.

Intersection IC5: serves those heading towards Jaber Al-Ahmed City and the palace. The intersection will be developed

through maintaining the current bridge and modifying it to become 3 lanes, and constructing 4 roundabouts with the removal of

traffic lights to facilitate traffic movement.
