Project: Developing Jamal Abdul Nasser Street
Starting date: May 2011.
Completion date until September 2014 : 40.96%.
The Ministry of Public Works is responsible for the Jamal Abdul Nasser road development project, which includes the
conversion of the current road to a multi-storey highway that features global highways standards which in return will
become one of the largest international infrastructure projects in the region. The project aims to raise the absorptive
capacity of the road’s capacity and upgrade the level of security and traffic safety, leading to a reduction of accidents
rates and reduce traffic congestion significantly, and is considered one of the strategic projects implemented by the
Ministry in preparation for the requirements of future traffic and raise the level of services to road users.
The project is located in the western side of Kuwait (Al-Asema). It runs from Al-Jahra Gate’s roundabout (Sheraton
Roundabout) until Eastern Ghirnata area, north of Al-Asema. The project is considered to be the infrastructure of many
government, educational, and health agencies and bodies such as Kuwait University, General Authority for Applied
Education and Training, major hospitals that are located in the region adjacent to the road, in addition to the Kuwait
Ports Foundation, which will contribute to the facilitation of access and departure movements from and into those
mentioned places through the separation of different traffic paths, both crossing and local.
Project Stages:
Due to the nature of the region and the high rate of traffic flow, the implementation works has been split into five
phases, which are all being worked on at the same time in order to avoid traffic congestion at peak times, facilitate the
movement of entry and exit to and from all regions and existing services on both sides the road. The five phases of the
project are as follows:
First stage:
Starts from First Ring Road (Al-Salam palace), and ends at the
Airport road.
Second stage:
Starts from Al-Sabah hospital’s roundabout and ends at Girnata
area, towards Al-Sulaibikhat area.
Third stage:
Starts from Al-Razi hospital’s intersection and ends at the Gazali
road’s intersection.
Fourth stage:
Starts from the Airport road and ends at the Gazali road.
Fifth stage:
At the Gazali intersection only.
