- Projects - The most important ongoing projects
The Ministry of Public Works has several projects that includes the development of roads of the southern region of the State of
Kuwait through the future vision for the movement of the development and progress of the country. The Ministry is always trying
to achieve a network that is able to accommodate the increasing urban development, traffic population and increased density.
Therefore, the ministry has designed several projects that aimed at the development of existing roads and bridges. As well as
the development of improved infrastructure services and the development of the entrances and exits of the new cities and link it
to the highways network. Some of those projects are:
Construction of roads and bridges, and other services for the road linking the Mina Abdullah and Alwafra
(Road 306)
Commencement Date: December 2015.
The project aims to develop the existing road (306) (The Death Road) that begins from the intersection with Fahaheel Highway
(30) and ends at the existing roundabout at the road of Kabd – Alwafra. It consists of the establishment of the upper
intersections and cancelation of all ground detours, which were causing a lot of traffic accidents. Also, it includes the
development of the existing intersection between road 306 and road(40) to secure the movement directly toward Kuwait city.
The Total roads’ lengths in the project: 40 km - The number of intersections: 9.
Construction of roads and bridges, and other services for road links between Sabah Al-Ahmad City and
AlKheran residential City:
Commencement Date: February 2016.
The project is located in Al-Ahmadi. It aims to rehabilitate existing roads and construction of new roads, according to the
calibrated design of the highway, which will lead to improved traffic safety level and raise the level of service at various parts of
the project and through the adoption of upper intersections at the entrances and exits of Subah Al-Ahmed City (250 thousand
inhabitants) and Al Kheran residential City (600 thousand people).
The project aims to link the cities of Sabah Al-Ahmad City and AlKheran residential City as well as linking the two cities with the
surrounding roads (roads 306 , 309 and Fahaheel Highway) through the establishment of three highways with a total length of
53 km and are explained below:
A new 22 km road that runs between road 306 and Road 309.
A new 15 km road that runs between Nuwaisib and Sabah Al-Ahmad residential city.
A new 16 km road that links Sabah Al-Ahmad City and AlKheran residential City.
The project also includes the development of two upper junctions (IC-7, IC-8).
Construction of roads and bridges, and other services for the road linking al-Zour port and Alwafra (by 309):
The project has been Presented and awarding is in process.
The project aims to develop the existing road (309) beginning from the intersection with Nuwaisib Highway (Al-Zour port) and
ends at the roundabout of Alwafra farms. Also, it aims to develop the existing road and linking roads 306 and 309.
Total roads lengths: 37 km – Intersections: 6.
