National library of Kuwait

The Kuwait National Library is the official state library and the national bibliographic center, and the concerned authority to

collect, organize and save the national heritage, intellectual production and cultural Kuwaiti documentation, as well as

compilation of all literary works and documents available in Kuwait on the Arabian Gulf, the Arabian Peninsula, and the Arab

and Islamic civilization.

Kuwait National Library is located in AlQibla area - the province's capital - on the Arabian Gulf Street between Maari Street to

the east and west of Sadu House and the National Museum, and overlooking the Qasrasif complex and Kuwait Bay to the

north. It has an area of approximately 22,000 m².

The building’s components:

The library’s building consists of three floors, and is divided into two parts; the eastern part and the western part.

Ground floor:

It contains public places that are accessible from the main hallway that extends along the front of the building. And next to the

main entrance is located the meeting room, the library’s Dewanya, and the lecture hall. In the middle of the library lies the

inquiries office and the theater. In the western part of the ground floor lies the Lending Library, Children's Library, Main Library,

and Special Needs Library, while the eastern section contains the technical divisions.

First floor:

The western part of the first floor contains the general knowledge, philosophy, psychology, social sciences, and languages. It

also contains set of archive books that are interested in the genesis of states, especially the Arabian Gulf region in addition to

the university’s thesis.

The eastern section contains a set of geographic history books, and patrols department.

Second floor:

The west section contains government publications, publications of international organizations, and the Official newspaper’s

archive of the State of Kuwait, and also contains halls for the reading of Arts and Literature.

The eastern section contains a collection of books on the pure and applied sciences, and science references.

In the middle of the second floor lies the “Kuwaitana" hall, which holds a collection of specialized sources of information about

everything that has been written about Kuwait.

Third floor:

The west section contains the Audio-Visual Materials Library and the donated private books, which were allocated separate

places that have been arranged according to each group’s property, as well as documents and manuscripts department.

The eastern part contains the Department of the library and the Arab Heritage Department.
