The permanent Headquarters of the Regional Organization of Marine Environment Protection Project
Beneficiary: Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Commencement Date: May 2015.
The aim of the establishment of the Regional Organization for the Protection of the Marine Environment project is to protect the
marine life from contaminants and prevent the dumping of substances that are harmful to it. For this, the Ministry of Public
Works depended on a key principle in designing the building and it is the realization of a distinctive architecture landmark
suggesting a concept of FAO's relationship with the marine environment and the nature of their work; as well as, creating an
ideal environment for work. The building has been designed in accordance with the basic requirements of the Regional
Organization for the Protection of the Marine Environment. For example to achieve the required space for the headquarters,
according to the departments in addition to the sensor (Satellite), which will be transferred from the old headquarters and
installed on the new headquarters while ensuring optimal use of the device.
The project is located in Al Asima governorate, Granada region, block 3 and surrounded by the North by Gamal Abdel Nasser
Road and from the south by Jahra Road. The site was chosen carefully to be overlooking the Arabian Gulf because of its
relationship with the nature of the work. On the other hand, away from any effects (Radar devices or wireless devices) that
could hinder the work of the remote sensor device (Satellite) which is allocated to the organization.
The project consists of:
The main building of the Organization: and consists of a basement, ground floor, two floors and a roof that has the remote
sensor device (Satellite) and it has a separate entrance in order to carry out maintenance work.
The building contains:
Offices for senior management.
Department manager’s offices.
Staff offices.
Showroom.
Meeting rooms.
Library.
Hall meetings and lectures can be divided to the number three galleries.
Services.
Sub-building: consists of one floor and includes workshops, printing press, recreation workers and security staff.
Parking: on the surface and shaded for a number of 40 cars.
Site coordination works: Coordination of green spaces, footpaths and seating, and the distribution of external illuminations in
order to achieve the organization's goals of protecting the environment.
