Chapter 3

– Road Networks –

The Highway network in the State of Kuwait

Third:

International (border) roads:

Due to the geographical location of the country, it the internal road networks have been linked with the international road

networks with neighboring countries. The linking process has been done by international standards, both in terms of

direction duplication or endurance specifications for heavy transport or the types of services required as well as to take

into account the availability of international guidance signs, and it is divided as follows :

This road runs from the end of Fahaheel Expressway until the southern border of Kuwait with Saudi

Arabia. It is linking Kuwait City (the capital), the port of Abdullah, oil industries centers, and the

southern borders. This road serves the international traffic between the north and south of the Gulf

States.

Nuwaiseb

This route starts from the edges area west of the village of Al-Jahra and extends westward until Salmi

area on Kuwait's border with Saudi Arabia. The route serves the international road traffic heading to

and from the north-western part of the Gulf region.

Al-Salmi

This road starts from Al-Mitlaa area in front of Al-Jahra village, it is an extension to the AL-Jahra

highway to connect the country with the other northern countries

Al-Abdili

Fourth: Bridges and tunnels:

The bridges and tunnels built in Kuwait contributed largely in reaching a solution for the traffic crisis, some of these

bridges as follows :

The length of the bridge is 2 km. It is a part of the Ghazali road. The road’s southern intersection

extends with Gamal Abdel Nasser Street passing above the Second and Third Ring Roads and under

the Fourth Ring Road by an underground tunnel. The roads below it serve as various entrances and

exits and to serve the traffic to the areas that it passes through. The bridge mainly supports the

transportation of goods from and to the Shuwaikh seaport.

Gazali bridge

The bridge has been implemented to link the Bobyan island and other parts of Kuwait with Al-Subiya

area. It consists of several parts; the middle part is a concrete bridge that passes above the navigation

canal with a length of 2 km. The other parts are asphalt road of approximately 3 km long that connects

Al-jahra and Subiya

bridge

This tunnel is part of the project to establish an extension through Riyadh highway that intersect with

the First Ring Road highway and Al-Soor Street. It is provided with a pump to raise the rainwater to the

rainwater sewage network surrounding the tunnel. The tunnel has contributed to resolving the traffic

crisis in the ministries complex area to a large extent and it connects many of the highways to the

heart of the capital.
